Waxahachie community comes together to mark day of freedom

Everyone was welcome at Waxahachie’s Juneteenth celebration on Saturday at the Ellis County African American Museum and Library. A parade was held between Lee Penn Park and the museum, where festival-goers were treated to live music, museum tours, a car show, food vendors, voter registration and more. Juneteenth celebrates the abolishment of slavery in America.

For the first time, Juneteenth was celebrated as a federal holiday after Congress overwhelmingly passed a declaration and President Joe Biden signed it into law.
