Pretzer graduates UMass

Baillie Pretzer of Waxahachie was among the graduates honored by UMass Lowell's 2020 Commencement on May 29.

Pretzer earned a bachelor of liberal arts degree.

The university held a virtual Commencement ceremony for the more than 4,400 members of the Class of 2020, which represents 45 states and 108 nations, and included 1,624 individuals who graduated with honors.

Operation First Day of School set; donations, volunteers needed

The Waxahachie community will come together to host Operation First Day of School from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Clift Elementary School.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s will be a drive-through event. All participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and supplies will be delivered to your car. There will be signs at Clift Elementary on the day of the event with instructions.

Operation First Day of School provides free school supplies and backpacks to students.

The district is looking to partner with businesses, organizations, churches and individuals to help acquire school supplies, monetary donations and volunteers to help run the event. Monetary donations will be accepted until July 30.

Since 2009, Operation First Day of School has assisted more than 4,000 families and more than 10,000 children. Operation First Day of School will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
