FORRESTON – A Killeen resident lost his life Thursday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving hit the trailer of a semi-truck. First responders were dispatched to the scene at 2:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 35E near the exit for Forreston.

“The 18-wheeler was slowing down due to traffic slowing because of construction,” Texas Department of Public Safety PIO Sgt. Sara Warren said. “The car ran into the back end of the semi-trailer for an undetermined reason.”

Warren said the driver of the 2016 Volvo semi-truck, Gregorio Rebollar, 54, of Denver, Colorado, was not injured. The driver of the 2017 Nissan Maxima, Damon Wright, 54, died from his injuries. He was declared deceased at the scene by Ellis County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Curtis Polk at 3:45 p.m. Polk then ordered the body taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.

Warren said the cause of the accident is undetermined at this time. The accident remains under investigation by DPS Troopers.
