After two days and six soccer games at the 287 Classic, the only blemish on Waxahachie’s record was a 1-1 tie the boys experienced against an R.L. Turner team that won its other two games a combined 15-1.

The teams concluded the tournament Saturday with the girls taking a 1-0 win over Longview Pine Tree and the boys shutting out Bishop Dunne, 2-0.

“They were much needed wins for the girls,” head coach Jason Venable said. “Three wins after a bumped preseason and scrimmages and now we’re getting our confidence back and feeling we know where we are better now.

“The boys are playing well, but not near as well as they can. It was a good group effort.”

In the girls game against Pine Tree, Emily Gore scored the game’s only goal off of an assist from Katie Hinds. It was Gore’s second of the tournament.

Hank Alven did all the scoring in the boys game, scoring two goals off of assists from Sheldon Ellis.

Alven finished the tournament with four goals while Ellis finished with two goals and four assists.

The teams return to district tonight with they travel to Kaufman for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. starts for the boys and girls.
