Greg Hayes, the head baseball coach at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, recently announced the addition of a new recruit, Jacob Spivey, who signed his national letter of intent to play at SAGU.

“We are really excited about Jacob coming to Southwestern,” Hayes said. “He is an outstanding young man. We are glad we found him.”

Spivey is from Harker Heights, which is southwest of Temple, Texas. Spivey is a 5-foot-10 member of the Georgetown Eagles, where he is a shortstop for coach Danny Wallace’s team. As a junior he was a co-captain for the HH Knights, where he swung a .501 bat. Known for speed, Spivey projects as a top-of-the-lineup style of hitter.

He is a stellar pitcher and held opponents to a meager .220 batting average last season while sporting a 2.75 earned run average. It is expected that he will compete for a infield job and a spot in the SAGU rotation.
