Kyle Ball, middle infielder for Victory Life Academy in Durant, OK, has signed a letter of intent to play for the SAGU Baseball Lions.
Ball posted a .373 batting average over the 2007 season and reached base an impressive 53 percent of the time.
In addition to his high offensive stats, Kyle was named Co-Defensive Player at VFA.
Through is high school career, Ball has three Defensive Player of the year awards, one Offensive Player of the year award, was a First team All-State Selection by the Oklahoma Christian Athletic Association and was a First Team Sports Quest All-American.
Ball said that he wanted to attend SAGU because, “I really like SAGU and the coaching staff. After visiting the campus and talking to the coaches, I felt like it was the best fit for me.”
Over the course of the last season, the Lions used six different players in the middle infield en route to a next to last place finish in fielding percentage in the Red River Conference North Division.
Head Coach Greg Hayes pointed to injuries which allowed his opening day middle infield to play together for only eight games in February as the primary factor contributing to the team’s defensive struggles.
Despite their defensive struggles, the Lions finished third in team ERA in the division and fourth in batting average.
Thus far, the Lions have signed Derek Brewer (middle infielder/outfield/pitcher) from Denton, Cam Ward (pitcher and first baseman) from Ft. Worth, and Josiah Hensley (infielder and pitcher) from Missouri.
Ball is the fourth signee in the Lions recruiting season.
