The Milford boys basketball team took advantage of a one-and-one opportunity to sink both charity tosses with five seconds left to play for a 38-37 win over county rival Avalon.

Milford jumped to a 12-6 lead after the first quarter but then could only put up two points to hold on for a 14-13 lead going into the intermission.

The second half was an intense battle as the score was tied at 28 going into the final quarter.

John DeLaGarza of Avalon led all scorers in the contest with 16 points.

In the girls game, Avalon scored nine points in each of the first two quarters to seize a 18-15 halftime lead over Milford.

Milford was held to two points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Eagles held on for the 35-29 win. Both teams had balanced scoring with three players from Avalon scoring seven points.
