DUBLIN – The Maypearl Lady Panthers (3-0) rolled into Dublin for a District 11-2A contest and came away with a 9-0 shutout. Brittany Widner was superb on the mound, pitching the entire game and giving up one hit.
The defense behind Widner was flawless, as the Panthers were errorless in the contest.
Maypearl jumped to an early 1-0 lead when Karla Ford, Carrisa Reed and Emily Taylor all had first inning hits with Ford coming around to score.
Maypearl added three runs in the second when Brittany Dearing drew a leadoff walk. Widner reached on an error and Ryan Jones drew a free pass to load the bases. Ford hit a double to left field. Kirbie Day beat out an infield single as the Panthers forged a 4-0 lead.
Maypearl added a run in the fourth when Day walked and Reed laced a double to put both runners in scoring position. A dropped ball on a strikeout allowed Day to score on the throw to first.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Maypearl struck again. Widner drew a base-on-balls. Jones reached on an error. Ford drove a ground ball through the left side to score both runners.
Maypearl added the final runs in the seventh. A walk, a two base error and a wild pitch scored Jones, the Panther leadoff. Ford, who had reached second on the error, moved to third on the errant pitch. Taylor laced a line drive to left to score Ford for the final run of the game.
Tonight, Maypearl will host Grandview.
