Alvarado’s junior varsity football team scored late in the fourth quarter Thursday night, Sept. 13, to beat the Boswell Pioneers at Charles Head Stadium 29-26.

Running backs Kevin Handy and Jeremy Boyd were too much for the Pioneers late in the game. Handy rushed for 129 yards on 23 carries and Boyd rushed eight times for 43 yards, scoring two 3-yard touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. The Indians had 304 yards in total offense.

The defense was led by linebackers Anthony Torres and George Cole, who each had 10 tackles. Cole caused a fumble and the Indians held Boswell to 211 yards of total offense.

Rushing: Kevin Handy led with 23 carries for 129 yards; Jeremy Boyd had eight carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Nathan Blackstock had four carries for 6 yards; Travis Pruitt two for 3 yards; and Jacob Brown, one for 17 yards. Passing: Travis Pruitt completed six out of 11 passes for a total of 106 yards and one touchdown. Receiving: Nathan Blackstock received one pass for a gain of 4 yards; Jacob Brown received one for 7 yards; Lucas Hampton caught two passes for 70 yards and one 2-point conversion; Corey Tinnin caught one for a gain of 4 yards; and Trent Ingram caught two for 24 yards. Kickoff returns: Trent Ingram returned four kickoffs for 134 yards and an 85-yard touchdown. Jacob Brown returned one for 28 yards. Punts: Ray Miller returned four punts for 128 yards, for a 32-yard average with the longest being 44 yards. Tackles: George Cole and Anthony Torres each had 10 tackles; Cole caused one fumble. Jesus Gonzales and Damarcus Rice each had six tackles; Gonzales had one interception. Andy Mills had five tackles and one fumble recovery; Daniel Johnston had four tackles; Sam Loya had three tackles; Denzel Lewis had two tackles; and Chais Frank, Tarvis Pruitt, Ray Miller, Britt Beam, T.J. Pena, C.J. Ford, Trent Ingram and Max Rowe all had one tackle each.
