The SAGU mens soccer team opened its 2007 season on the short end of a 3-1 score Monday afternoon at the SAGU Soccer Field against Dallas Christian.

The Lions made the most of their one shot on goal during the first half as Glorie Ndongala found the back of the net on an assist from Danny Martinez for the first goal of the game and of the season.

The Lions were able to mantain a 1-0 advantage until halftime.

SAGU opened the game with 11 players on roster; Dallas Christian opened the game with 18 players on roster.

The lack of depth was evident in the second half as the near 100-degree temperature wore down the Lions.

In the second half, the Crusaders scored three goals and the Lions were not able to answer back, falling short, 3-1.

In the last 10 minutes, the Lions were able to manage a few deep penetrations into Crusader territory and one penalty kick, but never managed to get the ball to cross the scoring threshold.

The Lions will play their second of three opening week games on Thursday afternoon in Cedar Hill against Sterling College.

The 2007 season has begun.
