The JV boys’ Hawk basketball team (9-13, 0-6) continues to struggle in district, as they dropped an 83-64 win to a red-hot Corsicana team on Friday night in Corsicana.

The Hawks fell behind 30-10 at the end of the first quarter and could never fight back to get the game into single digits.

Red Oak fought hard for 32 minutes, but the Tigers never cooled off, and they couldn’t cut into the lead. Josh Mitchell led the Hawks with 20 points, while Nic Boyd had his best game of the year with 8.

Prior to the game, the team talked about the importance of these next seven games, that their ability to stay focused and fight through the adversity is something that would help them throughout their lives. The Hawks face a big challange as they begin the second half of district play.

Ennis 71, Red Oak 62

Red Oak jumped out to a 17-9 first quarter lead this past Tuesday night against Ennis but faltered in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and lost 71-62.

Guy Edwards led the scoring for the Hawks with 18, while Josh Mitchell added 13 along with 9 rebounds. Colby Landry also added 10 rebounds to help the Hawks on the glass. Overall, the Hawks’ 20 turnovers and poor shooting put the Hawks in too big of a hole to allow them to complete their good fourth quarter comeback. But they’ll continue to go to the drawing board to try to improve in these key areas.
