In what started as a defensive showdown ended in a nail-biting 42-41 win for Italy Tuesday as the Gladiators defeated Mildred.

Italy had a 9-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, but saw its lead disappear by halftime as Mildred took a 17-15 advantage heading into the third quarter.

In the third, Italy maintained its defensive intensity, but turned things up on the offensive end, outscoring Mildred 14-8 to take a 29-25 lead.

Mildred used a flurry of points in the final minutes to give Italy a scare, but the Gladiators held on for a 42-41 win.

Scurry-Rosser 61, Palmer 56

Despite leading at the end of the first, second and third quarters, the Palmer Bulldogs could not hold off a fourth-quarter rally by Scurry-Rosser as the Bulldogs fell, 61-56.

Led by Jeremy Gauna’s 18 points Palmer led 30-26 at halftime and extended that advantage to 45-41 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, however, Scurry-Rosser outscored Palmer 20-11 to steal the win.

Cody Oates and Joey Bobo also finished in double figures for Palmer with 14 and 11 respectively.
