This last week has shown a steady improvement in successful fishing outings at HighView Marina on Lake Bardwell.
The weather has been steadily improving with warmer night temperatures. March will be here in 4 days and you fishermen will be pleased to know the marina has posted new hours of operation for the spring. Be sure and call the marina or check their web page at highviewmarina.com for the new hours and days of operation.
Since Sunday, people have been catching large crappie with jigs and minnows as well as pinch head minnows. A lot of the fish caught have been close to 2 pounds.
A number of fishermen have come close to their limit this week before tiring or having to leave before the crappie turned on again. And they did indeed turn on again.
A little “northerner” came in about 1 p.m. on Monday and shut the crappie down for 3 or 4 hours then they turned back on and there were some good size crappie caught until dark.
Wednesday night found the crappie biting in shallower water along the boardwalk and even at the shoreline as you enter the marina. If the size of the crappie being caught is an indication of what we will be seeing during crappie season, it ought to be a good one.
Fishing is not a matter of life or death, it's more serious than that.
