Since dropping their season opener on Sept. 15, the Amarillo Bulls have been red hot.
Amarillo jumped out a 3-1 lead in the first period and never looked back, before downing the Topeka Pilots 5-2 in front of 1,772 fans on Saturday night at the Amarillo Cal Farley Coliseum Civic Center Complex.
With their sixth consecutive victory, Amarillo improved to 6-1 overall and 12 points. The Bulls also own a 2-0 season series lead over Topeka, who dropped to a 6-3 record.
Due to the season series lead against the Pilots, the Bulls also found themselves atop of the North American Hockey League South Division.
Pacing the Bulls against the Pilots was forward Brett Abdelnour, who scored two goals in the first period. Defenseman Brenden Datema netted a first period assist and a third period goal, while forward Alex Peterson came away with three assists.
Goalie Ryan Winter was also solid for the Bulls, with 24 saves on 26 shots on goal.
Next up for Amarillo is a home date with Lone Star at 7 p.m. this Saturday.
