RED OAK — Jeff Sutton, the head girls' basketball coach at Red Oak High School, submitted his letter of resignation March 9 to accept a position at Van ISD per ROISD Athletic Director Chris Anderson.
The position was posted on the ROISD careers site on March 20.
Sutton, who was hired August 12 and took over the position for Melissa Fullmer, has spent five years as the Lady Hawks head coach and compiled a 93-68 overall and 37-36 district records.
"We thank Coach Sutton for years of service to our district," Anderson said. "He has done wonderful work with our student-athletes during his time with ROISD. We wish him all the best in the future."
He led Diamond Lockhart and Chelsea Warren to the UIL 4A Regional Semifinal Round during the 2012-13 season and Chasity Allison, Destiny Corrales and Aarien Morgan to 4A Area Round during the 2013-14. Red Oak made the regional quarterfinal round in 2015.
This season was the only one in five one of his teams won 20 games overall and didn't make the postseason.
The Lady Hawks finished 22-11 overall and 6-9 in District 10-5A. Under Sutton, senior Madison Washington was a 2017 Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Selection.
After graduating from Mabank High School in 1996, he attended and graduated from Southwestern University in 2000. This was his 13th year teaching at the high school level.
ROISD confirmed Sutton, who submitted his resignation before spring break, will complete the school year until Red Oak's commencement June 3 at the University of Texas at Arlington's College Park Center.
