MAYPEARL — Three Lady Panthers earned new honors last week after leading their team to 25-17 overall and 13-1 district records and within two games of claiming the first volleyball state title in Maypearl High School history.
The Texas Sports Writers Association selected seniors Kennedy Thorne and Bailey Boston and junior Peyton Pogue as honorable mentions on the organization's All-State team.
The Maypearl High School trio, which helped provide one of the school's best volleyball seasons in recent memory, joined more than 50 girls from the 3A classification and 200 from throughout the state.
According to MaxPreps statistics, Thorne, an outside hitter, earned 374 kills, 331 digs, 77 aces and 39 blocks and Boston, a middle hitter and middle blocker, 264 kills, 243 blocks and 50 digs. Pogue, an outside hitter, had 217 kills, 324 digs, 76 aces and 23 blocks.
Callisburg High School's Skylar Allen and Macie Satterwhite and Goliad High School's Amaya Brown made first-team outside hitter and Goliad's Roxanne Morris, Leon High School's Kaitlyn Robinson and Peaster High School's Kennedy Warren made first-team middle blocker.
Goliad's Kendall Coles and Franklin High School's Darby Hughes earned the first-team setter and libero positions.
While Boston and Thorne are scheduled to graduate, eight other girls — including Pogue, junior setters Katie Gann and Kellie Blake, junior middle blocker Marissa Stottlemire and sophomore starting libero Steelie Ledbetter — are expected to join Head Coach Jim Wood's roster next year.
