ENNIS — The game before the county's soccer teams head into season-implicating play was fittingly ended with one of its truest rivalries.

Waxahachie High School earned its sixth win of the season after shutting out Ellis County competitor Ennis High School 2-0 Friday at Lion Memorial Stadium during the last non-district game of the 2016-17 season.

The (6-2-1) Lady Indians snapped a two-game losing streak following losses to Aledo and Cleburne High Schools. Senior Abigail Martinez scored an unassisted goal and sophomore forward Danielle Kyle added the second and final nail in the coffin on an Ariana Acosta assist.

Ennis, which fell to 2-4 overall, had allowed at least two goals in their last three games.

Waxahachie is scheduled to start their district schedule against Mansfield Summit High School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at R.L. Anderson Stadium. The Lady Jaguars lost their last two games against Denton Guyer and MacArthur High Schools by a combined total of 13-0.
