WAXAHACHIE — Life Waxahachie High School opened its boys' and girls' district schedules with dual wins against Venus High School on Tuesday at LWHS Gymnasium.

The (12-2, 1-0) Mustangs beat Venus' bulldogs 81-40 to win their 12th game of the season and the fourth in five games. It was their also second 30-plus point win in the last three games since beating Malakoff High School 80-44 last Friday.

Life Waxahachie handed Venus (6-11, 0-1) its second consecutive loss and dropped the Bulldogs to the bottom of the standings and among the dregs of District 8-4A.

The Mustangs will play in the Dec. 28 Paris High School Tournament before continuing district play against Midlothian Heritage High School and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' No. 10 4A Jaguars at 8 p.m. on Jan. 3 at MHHS Gymnasium.

After suffering back-to-back losses to Stephenville and Glen Rose High Schools, two of the best in the 4A classification, the Lady Mustangs and first-year Head Coach Tyler Adams seemed to find their stride during Tuesday's 54-52 victory over Venus at LWHS Gymnasium.

The girls, which are now 6-10 overall and 1-2 in district 8-4A, scored their highest point total of the 2016 season.

The Lady Mustangs will compete in the three-day Nolan Catholic High School Tournament on Dec. 28 before facing Head Coach Jason Hodges and Midlothian Heritage at 6:15 p.m. at MHHS Gymnasium.
