The Lady Indians soccer program is holding a Youth Soccer Night on the same field the varsity and junior varsity soccer teams will face Mansfield Legacy High School at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Lumpkins Stadium.
Waxahachie High School is calling all boys and girls players from 3 to 16 years old to take part in the Lady Indians’ annual event.
“It’s a great thing for the Waxahachie community to get all those kids from the youth rec leagues out and playing soccer at Lumpkins,” said Jason Venable, Waxahachie High School’s head girls soccer coach. “It’s exciting for every group, but it also gives the older ones a first-hand look what it feels like to be an Indian or Lady Indian.”
The event will take place during halftime of the Lady Indians and Lady Broncos matchup.
Venable said though two teams are already scheduled to compete during halftime, more talent would make the night merrier. He also added members from Waxahachie Soccer Association or YMCA teams wearing uniforms will receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for WISD students.
There will also be a $1 raffle throughout the night. The lucky winner of the raffle will receive a custom Landy Indian soccer ball signed by every member of the 2016 team.
“We’ve never done it before, but we figured it would be a nice keepsake for one of the kids,” Venable said. “Gives them a little something to remember us by and get excited about.”
