COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ An administrator at Texas A&M University's Laredo campus was named Friday as the sole finalist to become the next president at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dan R. Jones, a provost and vice president at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, would become the university's 11th president. Though A&M regents named him the sole finalist, they can't officially hire him for 21 days under state law.

Jones would follow Keith McFarland, who announced his plans to retire last fall after serving 10 years in the position. His last day in office is July 31.
