Mary Sue Quesenbury McBrayer

Mary Sue Quesenbury McBrayer passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020 in Plano, Texas. Born in Waxahachie, Texas to Elsie and Dickson Quesenbury, Sue graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1945 as salutatorian and from Mary Hardin-Baylor College in 1949. With a sharp mind and keen business sense, she worked with top executives in transportation and banking, including H.L. Hunt, Texas Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association, the Texas Highway Commission and Union Bank & Trust.

Sue loved exploring new places, even when she could travel only vicariously through TV. A voracious reader, she went through mountains of books – spy novels, mysteries and history were her favorites – and kept current on everything from sports to politics to entertainment. Above all, she loved the Lord and always kept her Bible by her side.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her daughter Mindy (Pete) Lance, her son Mike (Kelly) McBrayer, and her beloved grandchildren: Andrew (Brittany) Lance, Caroline (Cedric) Wilson, Gideon (Anna) Lance, Drew (Alli) McBrayer, Matthew McBrayer, and Amanda McBrayer. She also delighted in her great grandchildren: Chloe Wilson, Claire Wilson, Jackson Lance, Cooper Lance and soon-to-arrive Katie Lance.

Sue is also survived by her brother Dr. Coy (Pat) Quesenbury, sister-in-law Debbie (J.D.) Quesenbury and nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She especially was close to niece Kathy Quesenbury who was born on her birthday and special family friend Laura Sue Tharp.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Bettie Wilson and her brother J.D. Quesenbury.

Because Sue had such a big heart, she had a wide circle of adopted family and friends who made her life full of love and friendship. We are grateful for each and every one who brought joy to her 92 years.

There will be a private graveside service and celebration of her life with family and her close friends.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Box 8433, 900 College Street, Belton, Texas 76513.
