Gary Milton McClendon

Gary Milton McClendon died unexpectedly on September 20, 2020 at the age of 71. Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia, his two children, Chad McClendon and Casey McClendon, his brothers Ricky McClendon and wife Sherri, David McClendon and wife Lisa, his grandsons Deacon and Zeke Diaz, nieces and nephews, and many other extended friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sard and Margaret McClendon.

Gary was born on August 16, 1949 in Waxahachie, Texas to Sard and Margaret McClendon. He graduated from Itasca High School in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia, in 1968. After moving to Huntsville, Texas in 1969, Gary attended Sam Houston State University and joined the Marine Corps Reserves. After leaving Huntsville, Gary and Patricia moved to Midlothian, Texas. Gary started working at Texas Industries and worked there worked there for 15 yrs. Following Texas Industries, he worked at Holcim until his retirement in 2011.

Gary believed his greatest accomplishment in life was being a wonderful dad to his two children. His children will remember him as a kind father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He loved coaching their sports teams and just spending time with them. He also loved to barbeque and spending time hunting at the deer lease. Gary also loved telling people that one of his crowning achievements in his early life was the time he got to dance with Loretta Lynn and that she autographed his belt. Later in life, Gary’s world was mostly centered around his grandsons teaching them skills and hobbies of their enjoyment.

Gary will be remembered as a generous man who was always willing to help a friend in need and was always good for a laugh or unexpected prank to lift everyone’s spirits. He will be missed by many.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Midlothian Funeral Home. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 pm on September 24, 2020 at the Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas. Graveside services will follow shortly after at Mt. Peak Cemetery in Midlothian, Texas.
