Rebecca Irene Winningham, age 83, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 13, 2020. She was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on June 14, 1937, to Lillie (York) Butler and Easter Cad Butler.
She was a wonderful mother of four, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother to 17 amazing children and loved each of them selflessly.
Christmas was one of her favorite holidays because she loved giving gifts to every single person in the family. She never missed a birthday and always made sure everyone in the family felt special on their day.
She loved her church, where she had many friends. She enjoyed worshiping, going out to lunch, or just spending time with her friends and family. Her health prevented her from worshiping at Farley Street Baptist Church in her latter years, but she remained faithful by watching services on television. She was a devoted member there for almost 50 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Easter Butler; husband, Bill Winningham; and beloved son, Jeffrey Keith Winningham.
Irene leaves behind to cherish her memory: three children, Judy Steele and husband Donald, Brenda Huddleston and husband Larry, Jan Kelly and husband Joe; grandchildren, Justin Owens and wife Crystal, Jason Owens and fiancée Kendra Plumley, Jeremey Huddleston and wife Michelle, Brandi Foote and husband Nathan, Corey Kelly and wife Brenna, Malorie Kelly and fiancé Andrew Lewandowski, Nick Winningham and wife Samantha, and Hailey Sanchez; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Butler, Elmer Butler and wife Betty; sisters-in-law Mildred Butler and Grace Butler; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
To protect against the spread of COVID-19, the family asks that masks be worn and social distancing rules followed.
