John Brent Winn

John Brent Winn was born on October 23, 1953 at the Waxahachie Sanitarium Hospital to parents John and Norma Winn. His grandparents were J.W. (Dub) & Ruby Winn and Warren & Annie Loyd, all of Forreston, TX.

Brent grew up in Waxahachie playing sports, attending church, schools and graduating from WHS in the Class of 1972. He attended and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a degree in Radio, Television and Film. It was there that he realized his true passion was photography. He began a career in journalism working as a photographer for the Waxahachie Daily Light. This career path led to over a decade of work with the Arlington Citizen-Journal, Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Arlington Morning News.

Brent met his wife Barbara at the newspaper. They married in 1985 bringing into the family two daughters, Jana and Meredith. They bought a home and raised the girls in Arlington. He was a devoted father, always attentive and involved throughout their young busy lives and college, seeing them into adulthood and dancing at their weddings.

Brent and Barbara loved to travel and took many vacations, with photography always the focus of their adventures. Much of Brent's free time was spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored, always the subject of his photos. One of his favorite requests was, "Get your camera PawPaw, I have new moves!"

In 1989, he established J. Brent Winn Photography with Barbara working by his side. His passion for photography had no bounds. People, places, interesting faces, music events and special occasions, like weddings, were his focus for over 30 years. The business flourished. He was so blessed to be working at his greatest love.

Brent and Barbara were excited to be building a new home overlooking Lake Whitney, where they would spend their retirement. It was here that Brent unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2021, while looking at the beautiful vista on a sunny day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Scott Winn, and his grandparents.

Brent will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife of 36 years, Barbara, daughters Jana Hall and husband Clint, Meredith Murray and husband Ryan, grandchildren Lauren, Carter and Cannon Hall, Tatum, Reese and Corbin Murray, sisters Jan Hodgson and husband Bill, Melissa Poe and husband Jason, brother-in-law Kevin Graves, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
