She was born April 27, 1931 in Donie, Texas (Freestone County). Nanny grew up on a farm in Donie, where she loved being outdoors. In her earlier years, she enjoyed canning the vegetables raised in her garden. She was very proud of the 4H ribbon she won for her vegetable garden.

Mom loved her siblings and enjoyed spending time with them. Verdell received her GED as an adult and was a licensed dietician, and a Medication Aide at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home. She spent most of her time in the nursing profession taking care of others. Nanny was well known for her home daycare where she helped "raise half of Waxahachie". Her favorite place, besides home, was Sargent Texas fishing with her husband, Tommy Lord Jr. Verdell, like her mother Carmie Lee, were big fans of the Dallas Cowboys. She loved spending time in her yard with beautiful flowers.

Verdell was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Tommy Lord, Jr. who she had been married to for over 31 years.
