Hillsdale - Jan. 10, 1932 – Aug. 22, 2021

Hazel Katherine Idelle Carter, age 89, of Hillsdale, MI, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Hillsdale Hospital. She was born on January 10, 1932, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Vivian Joseph and Rosine (Grappe) Idelle. Hazel married John Edward Carter on January 30, 1975, and he preceded her in death on January 31, 2005. Hazel and her husband John worked in hotel management for many years until they retired to Waxahachie, Texas. Hazel took great pride in her home and family. She enjoyed raising poodles, traveling to historic locations in the USA, and often attended Broadway musicals and plays. Hazel enjoyed cooking and her specialty was a great roast dinner served with black-eyed peas. Hazel moved to Hillsdale two years ago to live with her daughter, Lisa, after her great-granddaughter was accepted to Hillsdale College. Hazel was a frequent "hostess" for many of the local college students who often came for family dinners, brought her flowers and took the time to share with her in a quiet conversation. She enjoyed spending her recent retirement in the Hillsdale community and the family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the care given to her by the local medical community, Perennial Park Senior Center and the Hillsdale College Students and professors who shared her life for the past two years. Hazel is survived by four children, Katherine Vuksinich of California, Deborah Cooley of Texas, William Bollinger Jr. of Texas, and Lisa Stilman of Hillsdale, Michigan; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Donna Bollinger and cousin, William Huthnance. A Mass of Christian Burial for Hazel Katherine Idelle Carter will take place at 1 PM today, September 1, 2021 at Nuestra Senroa Del Pilar, 4455 W Illinois Ave, Dallas, TX 75211 with burial to follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
