Ollie Mae Bassett, age 84, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at Windsor Place, Lancaster. She was born in Booneville, Ark., to George L. and Pearl (Barnett) Swaim. She and John C. Bassett were married Dec. 24, 1939, also in Booneville. They moved to Dallas in 1946.

Mrs. Bassett retired from Mary Kay Cosmetics after 30 years of service. In early years, she was a telephone operator in Texas and Oklahoma. She enjoyed being a housewife, taking care of her husband, family and her flowers. Mrs. Bassett was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Cedar Hill.

Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, John C. Bassett of Lancaster; son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Karen Bassett of Athens; daughter, Patricia Dover of DeSoto; brother and sister-in-law, Hoyte G. and Carol Sue Swaim of Mesquite; sisters, Esther Garner and husband J.C. of Mesquite and Ruth Duguid of Magazine, Ark.; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lonnie Swaim; sister, Claudean Witt.

The family received friends and relatives 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Red Oak Funeral Home. The celebration of life was 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, in the chapel of the funeral home, with interment following in the Red Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Bennett, Russell Bassett, Kirk Bassett, Gary Smith, Wayne Garner and Stephen Swaim.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Red Oak Funeral Home.
