Madalyn White Hickman was born Nov. 17, 1912, in Waxahachie, and she passed away Feb. 10, 2010.
She was married to Jess Claude White, a deputy sheriff in Ellis County who was killed in the line of duty in 1944. They had two sons, Ronald Barry White and Joe Henry White, who were the light of Madalyn’s life.
In 1947, Madalyn married Rush Harold Hickman and the family moved to Fort Worth. They shared 40 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling in the summers. She organized family reunions with her siblings and extended family for many years. She loved to attend her sons’ sports activities at Arlington Heights High School, and later her grandchildren’s activities. She was a loyal member of Broadway Baptist Church and served as president of the Ruth Class.
Madalyn worked for John Morris Florist in the 1950s and 1960s and loved floral design as it was reflected in her home and garden. Besides family, she loved nature, picnics, sewing, knitting, crocheting and a special canasta group that met for 30 years. She spent many hours with her grandchildren playing dominoes and card games. They affectionately called her “Bunchie” from Honey Bunch, a nickname from her siblings. She made the best butter pound cake, divinity candy and fresh peach fried pies in town.
Madalyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lucy Stoffregen; husbands; four sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald Barry White and wife, Jo Carol, and Joe Henry White and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Walliss Anne Vick, Joe H. White Jr. and wife, Leann, all of Fort Worth, Ronald Barry White II and wife, Susie of Graham, Texas, Warren Telfair White and wife, Pam, D'Ann Moxley and husband, Rex, all of Dallas; and nine great-grandchildren.
