George Norman Kent, 78, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, in a nursing facility in Red Oak.  He was born to the late Dewey and Maggie  Kent on June 7, 1929, in Valliant, Okla.

Mr. Kent was a native of Valliant, Okla., and resident of Lancaster for more than 50 years.  He was known by many as Norman, others as George, and others as Papa, but he was loved by all.  He served in the United States Army and Navy during WWII.

After his military service, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy, and they started their family.  He was a barber, truck driver and grocery store owner before starting his life's dream of becoming a farmer.  He farmed in Dallas and Ellis County for more than 30 years.  Everyone he came in contact with knew how proud he was of his family and how much he loved them.  He will be missed by all of us.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Marie Kent of Lancaster; sons, Sammy Kent and wife Carolyn of Boerne, Texas, and Billy Kent and wife Becky of Mabank, Texas; sister, Evelyn Graves of Hugo, Okla.; grandchildren Robert and Richard Kent, Bryan and Michael Kent, Sara Mendez and Gayle Kent; great-grandchildren Jasmine Mendez, Emily Rodriguez and Ciara Kent; and daughter-in-law Christi Kent-Watson of Italy.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Kent, and his sister, Jean Stanford.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Valliant Cemetery, Valliant, Okla., with David Hulslander officiating.

Visitation with the family was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at The Boze Family Red Oak Funeral Home, Red Oak.

Pallbearers included Bryan Kent, Michael Kent, Richard Kent, Robert Kent, Monty Graves, Chad Stanford and Tristan Mendez.

Honorary pallbearers include Ken Bradford, Rex Post, Jerry Watson and William Hulslander.
