Gene Francis (Horne) Morris was born on July 24, 1926 in Tecumseh, Okla, to Mary Ida (McCall) Horne. She passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at her home in Waxahachie.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sumner Urban Morris, in 2006.
Gene graduated from Tecumseh High School where she met her future husband and played trumpet in the band. Gene traveled the world with her husband because he was in the oil business and even lived for three years in Saudi Arabia. In 1985, the Morris’ retired to Midlothian and then settled in Waxahachie in 1999. They continued to travel, sometimes staying gone for three months at a time in their RV.
In her spare time Gene enjoyed painting, sewing, gourmet cooking, ice skating, and playing bridge, tennis, golf and the piano. She worked for many years at Texas Instruments and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Midlothian. She loved volunteering at the Senior Citizen Center.
She is survived by son, John Michael Morris (wife Elizabeth) and Robert Paul Morris (wife Darlene); daughter, Andrea Morris Fleming; grandchildren, Scott Morris (wife Marcie), Carolyn Morris Godavitarne (husband Tissa), Melissa Morris and Matthew Morris; great-grandsons, Alex Godavitarne and Jack Morris.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to First United Methodist Church of Midlothian.
