Ella Marie Pinno Baker Johnson passed away May 14, 2007 at Covenant Place in Waxahachie, Texas, at 93 years of age.
She was born on February 28, 1914, on a farm southwest of Mart, Texas, to Minna Helen (Hoffman) and Herman Godfrey Pinno, the eighth of ten children. Ella started school in Mart, but finished her education in the Riesel school system in 1932. The following year she and Grayson Elvin Baker were married and to that union two children were born. In 1947, Ella married Ray McNeil Johnson and they had one son. In 1966, the family moved to Waxahachie and in 1996 to Midlothian.
Ella wore many different hats in her life. She worked at a dry-cleaners in Mart and then at the Mart clinic, she was a part-time sales person and bookkeeper for Maxwell’s Jewelry in Waxahachie. She also sewed pillowcases for Baylor Hospital in Waxahachie, and began oil painting and gave lessons.
She is survived by sons, Don Baker (wife Joana) of Houston and Randy Ray Johnson of Rowlett; daughter, Marthalu Dieterich (husband Earl) of Midlothian; granddaughters, Ginger West (husband Mark) of Houston, Donna Goldfine of Houston, Dee Amber Shields (husband Steve) of Little Rock, Ark., Dana Lou Dieterich of Austin; step-daughters, Debra Aday of Garland, Deana Scobee (husband Mark) of Lavon; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, five brothers and four sisters.
Memorial Service will be will be at Oak Crest Baptist Church in Midlothian, on Thursday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. with interment in Mart, Texas, where she will be buried next to her parents.
She was the ultimate “hugger” and hugged EVERYONE she met, coming and going!
