Nancy Noland Powell, age 77 of Waxahachie, TX passed away Saturday September 12, 2020. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 6, 1943. Nancy graduated from Beaver High School in Beaver, Oklahoma in 1961, and attended Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, OK.


She was married to Gerald Frederick Powell on January 30, 1970 in Canadian, Texas. Nancy worked for 45+ years a secretary and administrative assistant for various non-profit and governmental agencies, most prominently the Baptist General Convention of Texas, multiple BGCT churches, and the city of Dallas. She was the church pianist and a founding member of High Pointe Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, and most recently a member of the Avenue Church in Waxahachie. Nancy was a proud survivor of breast cancer and participated in Susan G. Komen Foundation events. She was an avid quilter/seamstress/knitter, making many special quilts, clothes, and afghans for family members through the years. She also partnered with her sister and friends to make and provide quilts for dozens of community children through the Avenue children’s ministry.


Preceded in death by parents Rev. Robert Troy and Doris Mae Noland, and husband Gerald Powell. She is survived by her three sons Scott Powell of Memphis, TN, Nathan Powell of Waxahachie, TX, and Adam Powell of McKinney, TX; grandchildren Makayla Powell, Kacie Powell, Abby Powell, David Powell, Seth Powell, and Elizabeth Powell; sisters Sara Noland of Abilene, TX, Jan Naredo of Abilene, TX, and Evelyn Freeman of Dallas, TX; and numerous daughter-in-laws, nieces and nephews.


Memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Friday September 18 at the Avenue Church in Waxahachie. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Thursday September 17 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Nancy Powell to the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief Fund (214-275-1100) or the Susan G.
