Lovie Marie Cockerham Pruitt of Frost, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home, at the age of 90, on Friday, May 22, 2020. Lovie was born in Frost, Texas, on March 24, 1930, to Sill G. and Olive May Cockerham (Holloway).

She grew up in the surrounding areas having to move from place to place, sharecropping with her family, picking cotton. At the age of 17, she applied for and was accepted into a special nursing program that had just started at the hospital in Waxahachie, where she eventually became the Head Surgical Nurse. She later left nursing to raise a family and she eventually returned to nursing, which she loved, and continued until she retired at the age of 75.

Lovie Marie’s life cannot be summed up by words, or a few paragraphs written on paper, because she was so much more. The intricate details of her love and giving to others is written upon the hearts of those who remain, where love gives life to her memory, in a place where she will always live.

Lovie is survived by her sons, Lonnie and Dwayne Pruitt; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Pruitt; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; as well as through the memories that are carried by other family members and friends that are left behind.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sill and Olive May; her sisters, Lelta, Juanita, Bernice, Virginia and Estelle; her brothers, John D., James, Wallace, James Calvin and John Edgar; her husband of 52 years, LaVon; son, Danny; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, in the chapel at 10:30 a.m., followed by the graveside at Bethel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment and express your love to those who are still with you.
