Donald Reed DeWees, 80, was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Dallas and went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2020, in Plano.

Donald served in the Army Reserves from 1960-65 with one year of active duty during that time. He worked with the Dallas Police Department as a patrolman and helicopter pilot. He retired as a Captain with the Dallas Fire Department. He had a combined 30 years of service (1963-93) for the city of Dallas.

His hobbies included deep-sea fishing, building a race car and traveling to watch his Brittany Field Trial dogs work. He was an active member and volunteer at Ferris Heights Methodist Church in Waxahachie.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Archie DeWees; his mother, Opal DeWees; and brother, Richard DeWees.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry DeWees, Dallas; his sister, Janice DeWees Byrd and husband Larry of Dupo, Illinois; and an aunt, Violet Anders of Plano. He also had numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at Restland Funeral Home.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Restland Memorial Park with the Rev. Bayard Pratt officiating.
