Registration for the 2011 Waxahachie Youth Baseball League spring season continues from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Waxahachie Optimist Youth Center, 219 Patrick St., adjacent to the Optimist Park baseball fields.

WYBA provides competitive recreational baseball programs in seven age-based division for children ages 3-18.

WYBA will continue spring registration through the month of February, with signup events taking place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each Saturday at the Waxahachie Optimist Club.

Parents may also register their children online now through Feb. 26 on the league’s website, www.wybonline.org. For more information on WYBA, programs, leagues or registration, visit the league’s website.

The board will also be cooking pancakes, sausage and bacon Saturday morning, with all breakfast donations going to benefit the Optimist Building Fund to help rebuild the Optimist Youth Center.

Saturday night dance

This month’s Saturday night dance at the Country Lane Senior Living Center will be held in honor of Valentine’s Day. Bring your loved one on Saturday, Feb. 12, for a night of dancing and music provided by the Final Showdown Band.

The dance will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the new ballroom at the Country Lane Senior Living Center, 133 Park Hills Drive (behind the Waxahachie Senior Center).

Light snacks will be served and admission is free.

Lady Gladiator softball fundraiser

On Friday, Feb. 11, just before the Gladiators take on the Maypearl Panthers inside the Gladiator Dome, the Lady Gladiator softball players and their parents will serve up burgers with all the fixings in the high school cafeteria.

The Lady Gladiators are preparing to kick off their season in mid-February and would appreciate the community’s support at this fundraiser. The burgers will be served up beginning at 4:30 p.m., with service continuing until 7. The burgers will be cooked fresh and made “just the way you like ’em.”

 Each burger meal will cost $5 and will include chips, a drink and a dessert. To-go plates will be available.

Stew dinner

The Presbyterian Women of the First Presbyterian Church will be serving their annual stew dinner immediately following the morning worship service, which begins at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Feb 13.  Free will offerings will be accepted.

Czech Music Festival weekend

The Czech polka bands of Ennis invite the community to the fifth annual Ennis Czech Music Festival at the Sokol Activity Center located at 2622 E. State Highway 34, just east of Ennis.

The festival is slated for 1:30-11:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and will feature five polka bands: Czech Harvesters at 1:30, Jodie Mikula Orchestra at 3:30, Czech and Then Some at 5:30, Ennis Czech Boys at 8 and Jak Se Do at 10. Tickets are $5, with ages 14 and younger admitted free.

Raffle prizes will be offered and the kitchen will be open. The dress is casual and Czech costumes are encouraged.

The intermission entertainment includes Sokol KHB Gymnastics at 3 and the Moravians band at 7. The doors open at 12:30 p.m. No reservations.

A pre-party and polka jam session is planned from 7-11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Sokol clubroom, with no cover charge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with those attending invited to bring a covered dish.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, the Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius celebration will begin with a polka mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church followed by a dinner and polka dance at KJT Auditorium.
