Ellis County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the case of an 18-year-old Corsicana man who was shot after an incident on Interstate 45 between Rice and Ennis.
The incident occurred at about 4:11 p.m. Aug. 11 near the 245-mile marker.
“We were dispatched to the Corsicana hospital about a gunshot victim,” sheriff’s Capt. Danny Williams said. “We got over there and spoke to the victim, who said he was traveling northbound on I-45 when a car pulled up next to him and fired a couple of rounds.”
The victim tried to get away from the suspects, but a third shot knocked out the driver’s side window, causing him to wreck his vehicle in the median, Williams said.
“He got out of his car and began running on the service road and the suspects chased him down and shot him in the leg,” Williams said, saying the suspects then fled the scene.
The victim’s vehicle was still drivable and the victim drove himself to a friend’s house in Corsicana, at which time he was taken to the hospital, Williams said.
“We’re doing a crime scene analysis on his vehicle,” Williams said.
The victim’s vehicle was a Buick Skylark and the suspects’ vehicle was a dark blue older model Suburban, with Williams saying there is no other description than the victim saying he believes it was occupied by three Hispanic males.
“It’s still under investigation,” Williams said, saying the victim told deputies he does not know the people who were in the Suburban. “There are no suspects at this time,” he said, adding that no witnesses have come forward.
