Paintings completed during the 10-day “Paint Historic Waxahachie” artist’s painting competition will be judged by nationally acclaimed artist Bob Rohm.

From more than 100 paintings, Rohm will select first, second and third place cash awards as well as several merchandise awards of merit.

An artist, teacher and lecturer, Rohm demonstrates and conducts painting workshops across the nation and abroad. An accomplished studio painter, he is recognized for his plein aire painting with signature memberships in Outdoor Painters Society and National Academy of Professional Plein Aire Painters. He also holds signature membership status in Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America.

Exhibiting in national and international shows, Rohn’s work is in several publications including a new book titled “Pure Color - The Best of Pastel,” where two of his paintings are featured. He is working on a painting book that is scheduled for release in the summer of 2008. Rohm’s work can be found in numerous corporate and private collections internationally.

The second annual “Paint Historic Waxahachie” presented by Ellis County Art Association celebrates the art, history and architecture of Waxahachie as interpreted by some of Texas’ finest landscape artists. People are encouraged to share in the magic of the creative process as an artist completes a painting of the scene in front of them. Between May 24 and June 2, more than 35 artists are expected to participate in the event.

All paintings are for sale at any time during the Paint Out with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Ellis County Fine Art Museum. For more information about “Paint Historic Waxahachie” visit headquarters at 501 W. Main or call the Ellis County Art Association at (972) 937-3414.

The awards reception and meet-the-artists exhibition and sale will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Chautauqua Auditorium at Getzendaner Park.
