A Ferris resident traveling northbound on Farm-to-Market 342 in Red Oak avoided collision with a stopped vehicle before rolling over and landing in the ditch.

The 25-year-old female driver was treated on the scene for minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

The incident in the 400 block of Farm-to-Market 342 in front of the Red Oak Cemetery around 2:21 p.m. Monday.

According to officers on the scene, to avoid a northbound-facing vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn into Red Oak Cemetery, the driver in the Pontiac Sunfire swerved. The occupants of the turning vehicle were not hit.

“She never braked,” Red Oak police officer Charles Moses said. “All I’ve got is the yaw mark to calculate (speed).”

Moses said a yaw mark is produced when a vehicle tire begins to slide sideways as opposed to a skid when the brake is applied.

Moses said according to the driver of the other vehicle, the Pontiac Sunfire swerved to miss his vehicle before the Pontiac Sunfire fishtailed clockwise and turned over.

“She veered to miss the car that was stopped,” Rudolph said. “So it was just a one-vehicle accident.”
