The Midlothian Area Historical Society will meet next week to begin planning summer activities.
Interested citizens are being asked to take this opportunity to be a part of a group seeking to preserve, research and record the history of Midlothian.
“We want people who are interested in the history of Midlothian to join us,” Society member Ken Howard said at a recent meeting of the Midlothian Rotary Club. “We have members who have lived here all their life, we have members who went to school here and moved away and we have newcomers, too.
“We are in the organizational stage and we can use your talent and knowledge,” said Howard. “Midlothian has a rich heritage that has shaped our community. We want to preserve that heritage and tell others about it.”
The Historical Society is seeking to create a list of projects and places to be restored and preserved. The Historical Society is also looking to create a local museum or cultural center down the road.
Annual dues to become a member of the Historical Society are $20.
The Midlothian Area Historical Society will host their regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. May 1, at the Presbyterian Church on the corner of 4th Street and Main.
