Ellis County Master Gardeners have announced its first ever photo contest.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners, with first prize to win 50 percent of the total entry fees received. Second prize will win 35 percent and third prize will receive 15 percent of the entry fees received.

All contestants must sign an affidavit of eligibility and release.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories: single specimen, in the garden and garden bounty, Master Gardener Kimberly Ellis said.

“The single specimen category can be one single tulip or a field of bluebonnets,” Ellis said. “The in the garden category can be water gardens, flower boxes, full backyards, rooftop gardens or butterfly gardens - and garden bounty is fruits, vegetables and herbs.”

Photos must be submitted in digital format and may be submitted online. Film photographers may participate by having their photographs developed and placed on a CD.

“The contest is open to anyone, not just Ellis County residents,” she said. “Contestants may enter as may times as they wish but must pay an entry fee of $2 per entry and submit a separate entry form for each entry.”

Submissions are due by Sept. 30, with winners to be announced Oct. 5 in the Ellis County Master Gardeners Association newsletter and in the Waxahachie Daily Light.
