ITALY - During a called meeting June 21, the Italy City Council voted to padlock the Cargill-Gallman Community Center due to water damage.

The council gave Mayor Frank Jackson and City Secretary Cynthia Olguin authority to pursue other options for a community center, according to Olguin.

The council also discussed purchasing an existing building versus the cost to build a new community center, Olguin said, saying the group also discussed financing options.

In other business, the council reviewed personnel in an executive session.

In open session, the council voted to give the fire marshall/building official a 5 percent pay increase and the city secretary/administrator a 6 percent pay increase.

The council took no action regarding the police chief.
