A group of about a dozen Alvarado citizens fought the stormy weather and gathered together Saturday morning at Glenwood Cemetery to honor members of the armed forces who lost their lives serving our country.

Led by Alvarado Mayor Tom Durington and Larry Elwell, commander of the Pat Cleburne Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the event was part of a ceremony held simultaneously with ones hosted at cemeteries in Burleson, Cleburne, Godley, Grandview, Rio Vista and Venus.

As part of the memorial, a wreath was placed at the Veteran's Memorial at Glenwood Cemetery, the national anthem was sung by Emily Turner, a member of the AHS Honors Choir, and Elwell read the St. Crispin’s Day speech from William Shakespeare’s “Henry V”

Elwell, a Marine and veteran of the Korean War, also recounted some of his own military experiences during his speech.
