The Waxahachie High School Ex-Students’ Association board met last week to discuss final preparations for its annual alumni luncheon.
Directors of the association’s board and representatives from the honor classes (those years ending in a “7” or “2”) were present.
The homecoming luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Ninth Grade Academy. This event provides a venue for graduates from the 1920s to the 1990s to mix, meet and eat together.
Business items approved at the meeting included:
Approval of Dr. Justin Wakeland, class of 1957, to be inducted into the WHS Who’s Who. Approval of Clarence Wilson, class of 1947, to be inducted into the WHS Hall of Fame. Selection of Jerre Sullivan to receive the 2007 President’s Outstanding Educator Award.
“We welcome all graduates from Waxahachie to attend our luncheon,” said Richard Todd, association president. “This year’s reunion is about two weeks earlier than usual, and this appears to have affected the number of those planning to attend. We have had reservations made for about 80 people so far, compared with the 225 who attended last year. We are hoping this turns around in the next two weeks.”
