ENNIS – The American Red Cross is providing assistance to three residents after a structure fire Friday.

Firefighters responded to the call in the 2000 block of Memphis Drive at 6:05 a.m.

“The family called and said their pickup was on fire. When we arrived on scene, the family was already out of the structure,” Ennis Fire Chief David Hopkins said.

“The fire was in an unattached awning next to the home. Fire did spread to the home, but was put out in six minutes,” he said.

Hopkins said the fire is under investigation to determine the cause and the vehicle was considered to be a total loss.

Oncor was called out to the scene to cut power to the structure. No damage was reported to neighboring structures and no injuries were reported by firefighters or residents.

An estimate of damage to the home had not been finalized, but it is not concerned a total loss.

Units cleared the scene at about 8 a.m.
