As Valentine’s Day approaches, the annual event to get decked out and have a date with your daughter is almost here. The annual Father Daughter Valentine Dance hosted by First Baptist Church in Ovilla will be held from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the church’s action center.

“Fathers, uncles and grandfathers — escort your favorite daughter, niece or granddaughter to our annual Valentine Dance,” a spokesman said. “You and your special date will enjoy a very special and memorable evening together. You both will enjoy a lovely evening of dancing to the sounds for your enjoyment from a professional exciting DJ.”

The event will feature a dessert buffet, games and activities, door prizes and an option to purchase a souvenir photo.

The goal of the event is to serve the community and give fathers and daughters the opportunity to participate in an event they will remember forever.

“It’s a ministry,” said Pastor Wes Edwards. “It focuses on teaching daughters what their dates should be like.”

“If they don’t find love at home first, the will go somewhere else and find it. Girls of all ages need to be respected and know how to be treated on dates,” a spokesman said. “When you treat your daughter with kindness and respect that is how she will expect young men to treat her as well. This is a great opportunity for you to let her know how much you love her and how proud you are to be her dad. It’s cool time to be with dad.”

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the church office. Any military personnel and their daughters are invited free of charge to attend as a guest.
