ENNIS - Local police assisted early this morning when an escapee out of Kaufman County led authorities on a vehicle chase through several counties.
The inmate reportedly escaped custody at a hospital and took a vehicle, driving it into Dallas County before going south on Interstate 45 into Ellis County.
According to Ennis dispatchers, one of the pursuing agencies was able to spike the vehicle’s tires, with the man exiting the interstate and pulling over in Ennis near a veterinary clinic on North Kaufman Street.
Kaufman, Dallas and Ellis County sheriff’s departments were involved, with Ennis police also assisting.
The man was taken into custody at about 6:47 a.m. by Kaufman authorities, who also dispatched a wrecker to pick up the vehicle.
