During a regular meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners Court on Monday, the County Clerk and District Clerk offices received approval to provide online services.

“This addendum will let us put our indexes online, so people can look by cause number or by name to see if something has been filed, initially,” District Clerk Melanie Reed said. “Eventually we hope to have a subscription service for the attorneys. If they are a party to the case, they can pay a monthly fee and they will be able to look at proceedings online. I have had many requests for this.”

County Judge Carol Bush supported the project.

“As an attorney, I can tell you that’s an incredible tool,” she said.

“In my office, we will start with the index as well and when we add more we will begin with real property and then go to the court information,” County Clerk Cindy Polley said.

The proposal will be funded through user and subscription fees.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office received approval for an interlocal agreement with the city of Pecan Hill to provide housing for class C misdemeanor inmates.

“This is like the other cities we have contracts with,” Chief Deputy Charles Sullins said. “I don’t anticipate a lot of prisoners coming out of Pecan Hill, but they are trying to take care of this just in case they need it.”

Two items were declared as surplus by the commissioners for disposal at auction, namely a 40-foot steel fuel transport tanker from Road and Bridge Pct. 1 and a Waldo/Cummins Sweepmaster Broom from Road and Bridge Pct. 3.

Issuance of a purchase order for $61,591.31 to Computer Solutions of Waxahachie was also approved. The order is for computer equipment for the District Attorney’s Office and is based on bid pricing through the Department of Information Resources. Funding is available through Federal Asset Sharing ($48,012) and state Drug Forfeiture ($13,579.31).

The new equipment will become operational while the department is still in the temporary facility on U.S. Highway 77, but will transition into the new facility downtown.
