The HILCO Electric Cooperative Board of Directors named Debra Cole General Manager/CEO of the cooperative. She has filled the position of Interim GM/CEO for several months.

The announcement came from board President Steve Sawyer after the regular board session in June.

“We are certain Ms. Cole will lead the cooperative in a positive direction, ensuring the best possible service for our members,” said Sawyer. “Ms. Cole has 29 years experience in the utility industry.

“Her leadership experience as the cooperative’s Assistant General Manager and Interim GM makes it a natural fit for her to progress to the position of General Manager/CEO,” he added. “The HILCO Board of Directors has the utmost confidence in her ability.”

Cole joined the cooperative in 1984, after working for over five years with Texas Electric Service Company (TESCO) in Fort Worth.

She began her HILCO career as cashier and has held different positions in virtually every department at the cooperative.

She has served as HILCO Assistant General Manager since 2001.

She and Gary, her husband of 31 years, have a daughter and son; and nine grandchildren.

Cole has an Associates Degree in Applied Science in Management; Certificate of Technology in Management and Certificate of Basic Management Skills; and will earn her Bachelors Degree from West Texas A&M University in December.

HILCO Electric Cooperative serves over 21,990 electric meters in parts of Dallas, Ellis, Hill, Johnson, and McLennan counties.

HILCO, which has been in existence since 1936, has 16,000 members in its service area, which includes Hill, Ellis, McClennan, Johnson and Dallas counties. Hill County has the most members at this time; however, Ellis County is expected to become the largest in customer base in the next several years due to growth.
