Blood drive

The Waxahachie Rotary Club is sponsoring a blood drive with Carter BloodCare from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Waxahachie Civic Center parking lot. Those who register to donate at this blood drive will get a free

Forreston Cemetery Association

The Forreston Cemetery Association will hold its annual board meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Forreston Baptist Church located on Pecan Street.

Season tickets

Waxahachie Community Theatre announces that season tickets are available for the 2007 season, underwritten by Citizens National Bank of Texas. Prices for reserved seating are $45 per season ticket or $80 for two season tickets.

The schedule includes “A Slice of Salmon” in dinner theater Feb. 9-11, “Oklahoma” on May 4-6 and “The Music Man” on Oct. 26-28.

Season tickets must be purchased by Feb. 2. Individual tickets will be available during the season for the different productions, including “A Slice of Salmon,” which is the only dinner theater production.

The dinner show is by reservation only and individual tickets are $18 each, payable in advance no later than Feb. 2. Groups wishing to be seated together at the dinner theater must submit one order form for all of the tickets needed. Order forms and other information is available online at

A meeting is set for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the coffee shop at Hastings to discuss a commencement ceremony for homeschoolers in Ellis County and the surrounding areas. The ceremony is May 19 at the Waxahachie Bible Church. All graduating homeschoolers and their parents are welcome to attend.

Balloon bouquets

The residents and staff at the Pleasant Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center will take orders for Valentine’s Day balloon bouquets through Monday, Feb. 12.

Bouquets will consist of four small balloons surrounding a large, heart-shaped balloon and will cost $8 each. Proceeds will go into the activity fund for the residents.

Baseball signups begin

Waxahachie Youth Baseball has begun online registration for its 2007 season.

WYB provides youth baseball programs for ages 5-17 in six age-based divisions: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17.

Online registration can be done at through Feb. 3.

The league will also host in-person registration from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce located on YMCA Drive.

Donations needed

Donations are needed for Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County’s annual Giant Garage Sale set for Saturday, Feb. 3, at

First United Methodist Church, 505 W. Marvin in Waxahachie.

Valentine dance

The Red Oak High School marching band is hosting a Valentine dance for all Red Oak High School students from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the school cafeteria.

Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The price includes drinks and snacks.

The event will feature door prizes, contests and a live disc jockey.

Children’s Valentine crafts

Children ages 4-10 are invited to bring their creativity and join friends in making Valentine crafts from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Nicholas P. Sims Library. All materials will be provided.

Entrepreneur Workshop

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? Do you have a great idea for a new product or service? Do you want to be your own boss?

The city of Glenn Heights is hosting an entrepreneur workshop at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8, in the Council Chambers at 1938 S. Hampton Road. The workshop is free to the public.

Family Movie Night

The entire family is invited to enjoy a PG-rated animated movie on the large screen at Nicholas P. Sims Library from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. This month the plot centers on Otis and his misfit farm friends and their fun in playing tricks on their humans. Eventually Otis has to take responsibility for the tasks to be done around the barn. Children may wear pajamas and bring a pillow and blanket. This and all library events are free admission.

Valentine dinner and auction

Waxahachie Preparatory Academy will hold its annual Denim and Diamonds Valentine dinner and auction Friday, Feb. 9.

Activities begin with silent auction viewing at 6 p.m., with fajitas catered by Acapulco’s served at 7.

Tickets are $10 for adults, with $5 tickets for children in sixth grade and younger. Preschool children are admitted free.

Tickets are on sale now for the Waxahachie jazz orchestra and band boosters’ second annual Jazz Caf/ fund-raiser Feb. 10 at the Waxahachie Civic Center.

Valentine’s Day Event

Waxahachie Symphony Association

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents Tin Roof Tango at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie, on March 3.

“Take five talented musicians, more than 30 acoustic instruments, music from six continents, a bit of dance and you have the recipe for Tin Roof Tango’s Big Acoustic World Show,” a spokesman said.

The Ellis County Master Gardeners Association will hold its annual Lawn and Garden Expo on Saturday, March 17, at the Waxahachie Civic Center.

Brownie Scout food drive

Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 2529 is supporting Waxahachie CARE by planning their community project of a food drive from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m., Saturday, March 24 in H-E-B’s parking lot. Everyone is encouraged to participate and stock aside canned goods to benefit the drive, which do not have to be donated until the day of the drive. Waxahachie Symphony Association

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents the Classic Brass of Texas at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 624 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie, on April 4.

“Known and praised for tailoring its concerts to audiences, Classic Brass performs refined yet accessible programs including Bach, Bozza, Gabrieli and Sousa in addition to jazz and Dixieland favorites,” a spokesman said.

Parenting class

Northside Elementary will host a parenting class on the topic, “Summer Safety,” from 7-8:30 p.m. April 23.

Parents will learn about water, insect and camping safety.
