Registration extended

Due to inclement weather conditions this week during Navarro College’s late registration for the spring semester, registration has been extended. The extended times are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, on all campuses: Corsicana, Mexia, Midlothian and Waxahachie. Also, the tuition and fees payment deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Season tickets

Waxahachie Community Theatre announces that season tickets are available for the 2007 season, underwritten by Citizens National Bank of Texas. Prices for reserved seating are $45 per season ticket or $80 for two season tickets.

The schedule includes “A Slice of Salmon” in dinner theater Feb. 9-11, “Oklahoma” on May 4-6 and “The Music Man” on Oct. 26-28.

Season tickets must be purchased by Feb. 2. Individual tickets will be available during the season for the different productions, including “A Slice of Salmon,” which is the only dinner theater production.

The dinner show is by reservation only and individual tickets are $18 each, payable in advance no later than Feb. 2. Groups wishing to be seated together at the dinner theater must submit one order form for all of the tickets needed. Baseball signups begin

Waxahachie Youth Baseball has begun online registration for its 2007 season.

WYB provides youth baseball programs for ages 5-17 in six age-based divisions: 5-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; and 15-17.

Online registration can be done at www.wybonline.org through Feb. 3.

The league will also hosts in person registration from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce located on YMCA Drive.

Donations needed

Donations are needed for Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County’s annual Giant Garage Sale set for Saturday, Feb. 3, at

First United Methodist Church, 505 W. Marvin in Waxahachie.

Goods can be delivered to the church from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday

Coalition of Senior Partners

The Coalition of Senior Partners will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at the First Baptist Church. Dave Eder and his group will play country and gospel music and serve as entertainment for the evening. Newcomers are welcome to join this nondenominational group.

Pancake/chili day

Eat all day with the great cooks of the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, 505 W. Marvin, and take home dinner from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

Beginning at 7 a.m., the pancakes, bacon and sausage will be cooking and ready to eat. Chili and soup will be served beginning at 11 a.m., with frozen casseroles and homemade baked goods also available for purchase. All items are available as takeout.

This annual fundraiser will benefit local charities and support the community programs housed in the Family Life Center of First Methodist Church.

Reunion meeting

The biannual Oak Lawn and Turner High School reunion will be held this summer, with the first reunion meeting to be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 27 at Joshua Chapel Church.

YMCA program

The Waxahachie YMCA will participate in the Pay the Day membership program throughout January. The program reduces the joiner’s membership fee, which is usually $95, to a dollar amount of the date that an individual or family signs up for a membership.

For example, if a family or individual joins the YMCA on Jan. 22, the joiner’s membership fee will be $22, rather than $95.

Project Graduation

Waxahachie High School senior parents are reminded that the next Project Graduation meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the school cafeteria.

Parenting class

Northside Elementary’s class on the topic “How to Effectively Communicate to your Children about Sex and Other Sensitive Subjects” originally scheduled for Jan. 22 has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.

The class is free and open to the community.

Teens

Teens, ages 13-18, will have the opportunity for some hands-on science at Nicholas P. Sims Library from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. April Roddy will demonstrate how science can be fun with a few hands-on science experiments the teens can try. Bring a friend to this program. Snacks will be provided.

Teen Book Club

Nicholas P. Sims Library is organizing a Teen Book Club for ages 11-18 from 6-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25.

“In this initial meeting we will talk about future books to discuss and get acquainted,” a spokesman said. “February’s book is ‘Eragon’ by Christopher Paolini, which will be handed out at the January meeting.

Participants will be able to keep the books we read.”

Future meetings will be an hour in length to give time for discussion. This program is made possible thanks to the support of the Friends of Sims Library.

‘Chilllin’ with the Charmers’

The Cherokee Charmers Booster Club will host “Chillin’ with the Charmers” from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy Solis Gym. The event will include performances by the Charmers showcase their competition routines. A chili lunch will follow. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children, with those younger than age 5 free.

Glamour Shots fund-raiser

The Waxahachie Masonic Lodge No. 90 will host a Glamour Shots fund-raiser from noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the lodge, located at 303 John Arden Drive in Waxahachie. The cost of $25 pays for hairstyling, makeup and an 8-inch by 10-inch photograph. With the event scheduled close to Valentine’s Day, the lodge invites couples to be photographed.

Adult football league

Jan. 28 is the last day to register for the YMCA adult football league. Games will be played on Tuesday nights at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The first game will take place Feb. 6 and the last game will take place in March.

The cost is $300 per team and covers referees and use of the sports complex. Adults age 16 and over can play and teams are coed.

There will be a coach/captain meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Waxahachie YMCA.

Valentine dance

The Red Oak High School marching band is hosting a Valentine dance for all Red Oak High School students from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the school cafeteria.

Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The price includes drinks and snacks.

The event will feature door prizes, contests and a live disc jockey.

Ticket amnesty program

The Glenn Heights municipal court is offering its annual amnesty program for outstanding municipal warrants through March 31. The amnesty will include waiving the violation of promise to appear warrant, which in many cases alone will total a $310 fine.

“If you wish to participate you must pay the full amount of the original outstanding charges,” a spokesman said. “If you cannot make the full payment, the court is still offering payment arrangements for those who wish to clear their outstanding warrants.”

Individuals choosing to participate in this amnesty program will not be arrested on these warrants if they voluntarily appear at the municipal court clerk’s office to pay.

Valentine dinner and auction

Waxahachie Preparatory Academy will hold its annual Denim and Diamonds Valentine dinner and auction Friday, Feb. 9.

Activities begin with silent auction viewing at 6 p.m., with fajitas catered by Acapulco’s served at 7.

Tickets are $10 for adults, with $5 tickets for children in sixth grade and younger. Preschool children are admitted free.

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents Tin Roof Tango at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie, on March 3.

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents the Classic Brass of Texas at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 624 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie, on April 4.
